Lets throw it back to where it all began.... Circo 2011, aka the good ol days.
It was Senior year of high school and Nick didn't have a date to homecoming. Naturally Kate’s wing woman E Pons knew she wanted to go to the Jesuit dance since all her friends were going. That summer before, the three of us had become good friends after working at Camp Rec together. Em convinced Nick it would be a good idea to bring Kate, after all, can you think of a better date then Kate Costa, girl has got some killer dance moves ;)
Nick ended up asking Kate with a scanvenger hunt at her parents house. I wish we could say the scavenger hunt work.. but in reality Nick placed the notes next to the sprinklers and so none of the writing could be read.... she eventually figured it out and decided she would go.
We went to homecoming and Nick sweated through his entire shirt. Safe to say we had a great time dancing! Next, it was Kate's turn. CB Homecoming was coming up and she didn't know who to ask. She figured if she had a good time at Jesuits why not ask Nick back. We thought Nicks asking was bad.. now lets just start this with IT WAS ALL DEBBIE COSTA AND EMILY PONS idea. Those two convinced Kate it would be an excellent idea to go to the airport with a massive sign, stand at the bottom of the escalator, and "surprise" Nick on his flight back from his waterpolo tournament. Nick got off the flight with his whole team and walked right past Kate, until his father told him I was standing there. I guess he said yes? Honestly, I knew if we could get through that awkward moment in life, we could get through anything.
We went to CB homecoming, Nick showed up with a pink fishing shirt on, Nick kissed Kate at the dance, they were quickly reminded to keep room for the Holy Spirit, and then the romance all began.
Kate laughed of happiness and Nick cried. Nick really pulled this one off!
I know this may come of a shock to most of you, but I guess I can be just the tiniest bit difficult, and Nick likes to say this day really proved it. We were headed to Napa for the day on December 29th as part of Marisa's Christmas present. She was gifted a day with her friends. I wasn't super pumped about the idea because I had to work the next three nights, but nick told me I needed to put my big girl panties on, suck it up, and go.
Naturally I wasn't really going to dress up until Nick insisted I look presentable since Marisa always wants to take pictures. I said fine and got dressed up. We left on time... well Kate time... aka 30 minutes late and headed to Napa. When we got there I was really confused when no one else was there. I got mad at Nick and said where is everyone? He told me to be patient and that Julie had to stop and go to the bathroom, she had just had hip surgery, so he said they were moving slow.
The woman at the winery welcomed us and asked if we wanted to start drinking. I told her no, this isn't our thing so we should wait for everyone else. Nick insisted we started, I insisted we don't, he insisted again and for once he got his way. We started tasting and she she said she would give us a tour (once again I resisted and lost). It was pouring rain and at the end of the tour she asked if we wanted a picture. I told her no we would wait for Marisa cause she would want to take a bunch. Nick said "Kate we never get pics, if she is offering why don't we let her". I agreed cause it was a valid point, and after all I did get dressed up. I said if we are taking a picture mine as well take one in the rain. The woman suggested the dry part but I insisted on the rain. Nick wasn't happy, but I figured lets go all in. After the rain pic, as we walked towards her she said wait, stop there and take one its really pretty. Half way through the pic Nick got down on one knee, put out the ring (not in a box, cause he knew I would find it), and said will you marry me, and I screamed yes.
We walked back in after the picture, and on the patio we see both of our families arrive. Apparently I was so late they all fit in another tasting right before.. whoops! They set up a private room and tasting for us and we were all able to celebrate. Afterwards, Nick rented the private room at Bottega and we had a big family dinner. Boy oh boy do we have such wonderful families to make our day so special. I couldn't have imagined it any more perfect. I like to tell Nick, I am so lucky he still wanted to marry me after how difficult I was that day!
